Boris Johnson ‘must do more’ to prevent excess deaths, as government urged to introduce food rationing

Scientists have urged Boris Johnson he must do more to prevent excess coronavirus deaths and said that his current strategy is not enough, with tens of thousands of lives on the line. Separately, another group of experts has called for food rationing to be implemented. The health secretary said earlier on Monday that “nothing is off the table” – suggesting that a curfew enforced by police was possible, in line with measures taken in other countries.

Elsewhere, the Tokyo 2020 Olympics were in doubt as the IOC announced it was considering postponing the games until 2021. And in the US, Donald Trump has been lambasted by state leaders for his response to the pandemic. One told him: “Get off Twitter and do your job.”
